Brian Strom Has Been Reappointed as RBHS Chancellor

November 14, 2018

Members of the Rutgers Community:

It is my great pleasure to congratulate Brian Strom, who has completed an enormously productive initial five years as the inaugural Chancellor of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) and Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, and to announce that he has been reappointed for an additional five-year term, effective November 1.

Dr. Strom has overseen the establishment of RBHS—born of the integration of the former University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey into Rutgers in 2013—as a vital division of Rutgers University. While implementing a dramatic financial turnaround, he led the formulation of a dynamic strategic plan to position RBHS as one of the best academic health centers in the nation, with signature programs in areas such as cancer, neuroscience, and infection/inflammation, and complementary programs in clinical research, drug discovery, informatics, and public health, including global health. Chancellor Strom has also appointed outstanding deans and recruited to Rutgers eminent leaders in cancer research, translational science, global health, and behavioral health care, among others.

Equally important, Dr. Strom has led the formation of Rutgers Health, bringing together all of Rutgers’ clinical care programs to create a single brand for all our health care services. Within Rutgers Health is an integrated multi-specialty faculty practice of nearly 1,000 practitioners that provides exceptional health care in clinical settings across the state. This past July, Dr. Strom was the leading force in establishing a transformative new partnership between Rutgers and RWJBarnabas Health to create New Jersey’s largest and most comprehensive academic health system—a partnership that will dramatically expand our academic and research programs in RBHS and has the potential to change the way people are taken care of, how health care professionals are educated, and how the future of medicine unfolds.

Brian Strom has provided vision and extraordinary leadership in advancing RBHS and Rutgers Health, and we can be proud of his record of accomplishment over the past five years. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Strom and wishing him continued success in the years ahead.

Sincerely,

Robert Barchi
